Jigsaw Build aim to make extending your basement a smooth and easy process, we believe the whole process should be transparent and you should know exactly what is involved in the build process. This is why we have made our own unique and easy step by step basement building guide. This cellar conversion guide is also linked to your payment structure, meaning all payments are stage by stage and not large advance payments. This way you can make sure your home extension is built according to your extension contract.

Basement Digging

The first thing in any basement conversion build is the digging of the soil to make way for the new rooms. There is a variety of different factors that influence this decision. Jigsaw Builds basement team will cut an area from the front of the house. This becomes the access point for the basement builders, now the soil is carefully removed from the basement room. The soil has to be moved carefully making sure the house is secure otherwise there is a chance the house could cave in.

Basement Structural

The second step in the basement build the structural side to it. The basement structure has to be very strong otherwise the whole house will collapse. This is why underpinning is required on the existing foundations. The area underneath the foundations will be dug deeper and concrete filled t make the foundations ready for the land above. The next step is to further strengthen the basement using steel beams. This will give the basement walls and the flooring strength to support the property.

Basement Fit Out

Once the basement digging and the structure has been completed the last stage is the basement fit out. The basement needs to tanking to make sure water does not leak into the property. Membrane will be fitted around the basement walls, waste pipes, heating pipes and electrical wires will run throughout the basement extension. Then the basement plastering will take place. All the kitchens and bathrooms will be fitted. All final fixtures and fittings will be fitted.
